Things to do in Goechala trek

‘The world is a book and the one who doesn’t travel hardly reads only one page” is a famous belief for many of the travelers, hence every traveler at least for once in his life should visit the Goechala trek, and the only reason behind is the grand views of big mountains that he sees. From here one cannot just only see just one summit, “the Kanchenjunga” but also the 14 big summits too. It’s a lot to see for just one trek. It’s not that hard to believe that the trekkers consider goechala trek to be the closest of all the summits in Nepal. It is the best 11 days trek.

The four things the visitors should never miss after reaching the Goechala trek.

The sunrise from Dzongri

The very first thing that a traveler should experience is the sunrise on the Kanchenjunga trek. Basically, the trekkers are not allowed to enter the Goecha Pass, but the view from Dzongri is just the icing on the cake and totally deserves a watch.

The ancient Greek rose in the springs

The ancient Greek rose is also known as the Rhododendrons with which the entire path of Goechala is blessed. And during the months of March and April these flowers glow and burst with life. They are the color of the goechala paths, the pink and the red. It is priceless to have a walk with these lovely flowers.

The mirror view

The Smiti Lake is another treat to the travelers as it is the still water with the reflection of the Mt. Pandim looks like a mirror reflection. The reflection in the early hours is just a blessing to the eyes of human beings.

Dense jungle at 12,000 feet

This trek of Goechala is very surprising as there are very few treks with tree lines at such a high height. If we compare it with treks from Uttarakhand or Himachal Pradesh, the tree line surrounds around 10,000 ft. Especially the thick covering of Rhododendron trees which flower during the misty spring and on the other hand are dark and cold during autumn.

Three deferral bridges

The travelers will cross these suspension bridges for almost over three deep gorges – Pha Khola, Tshushay Khola and Mentogang Khola along which the Prekchu River flows. It is surprising how suddenly all the bridges appear.

The monastery

The monastery is not exactly at Tshoka. Travelers need to take a path that goes out the campsite and cross a wooden connection over a pond. It’s such a mind pleasing setting. Mountains are always a place to meditate and so one could be elated to find this monastery plunked into the Goechala trek.

Spectacular changes in the scene

The first one is from Tshoka to Dzongri. Initially, the track surrounds through rhododendron and pine trees. But mysteriously after reaching Phedang, the thick forest cover suddenly finishes to a barren land. The change is astounding. The second interesting change in scenery is from Kokchurang to Thansing. Here the Prekchu River, which continues flowing deep in the gorges, all of a sudden cuts through the jungle. Automatically people move with the river. And it gifts such a magical ambience to the setting. The shift in scene, with a wooden bridge going over the river, is really surprising.

First sunrise on Kanchenjunga from Dzongri Top

This is the familiarization day where people take a day off and stay at Dzongri. Early morning, the travelers wake up at 4.30 am and head to Dzongri top at an amazing height of 13,778 ft. It is a straight climb, but totally worth it.

The glittery morning rays lighting up Mt. Kanchenjunga makes everyone feel amazed. It is also seen that the mountain changes color as the morning proceeds. People come here to make an album of unforgettable memories and endless fun.

Camping at the foot of Pandim

One of the most picturesque campsites in the trek is Thansing. It is a harsh meadow on the riverbed of Prekchu. At Thansing, people pitch their tents just at the foot of Mt. Pandim, right next to Prekchu.

 A perfect challenge for survival

Some people always lends towards treks that test their survival. And Goechala does that very beautifully. On this trek, one can cover 65.7 km in 10 days.
